Well, let's no wax nostalgic, here. Yes, they're
reliable, but not beyond many other engines.

If you're not going to really abuse it, stock
form is plenty good. For high performance, there are weak points like the unsupported outside ends
of the rocker shafts and, in the standard 390's,
the oiling system needs improvements. For a typical mild street hop-up, no problem.
