RE: C6ME Block |

I don't believe Ford was painting any automotive engines yellow in '66-later. The '66 Merc engines were Ford "Corporate Blue". So it must have been owner painted at some time.
Complete air cleaner to pan....thus it's a 4V? I think the first thing I'd do is roll that big block over carefully and pull the pan. Have a look at the main webs. Are there cast bosses that would allow for 427 caps? Not that your planning for '27 caps, it's just that this might be an indicator of the thicker cylinder walls.
Another thing you might do, which is fairly easy, is to pop out the soft plugs. Then roll the engine around in such a way so that you can look in the middle holes. You may need a flash light and a small wire brush, a screw driver and some carb cleaner. What you're looking for in that hole is a very small casting stamp: '428'. It's very small and difficult to see but I've seen it and my block has it.
If this C6ME is a Mercury as you say, it may be a 410 - 4.05 bore X 3.98 stroke. The 410 was a Mercury only optional engine for '66 & '67.
This C6ME might be internally rusty but that doesn't mean that the block can't be saved and used if it's crack free.
Let us know what you find after an hour of wrestling with that big boy in the dirt. |
