The bypass hose is the recirculating path for coolant when the thermostat is closed. This prevents hot spots from occurring in the heads, speeds up the warm-up cycle and helps defrost your feet faster. You can cap it off if you are not running a thermostat. Just be sure to run some type of restricter that’s the same diameter as the thermostat opening or else the pump will cavitate at much lower RPM’s. I’m sure Shoe could say it more eloquently.
