The FT has different exh gas crossover ports

At a glance, the FT and FE heads look the same, especially from the header side.

Upon closer inspection, the FT has it's exhaust gas crossover ports (2 per head) in different locations than the FE head (which has one crossover port per head). The easy way to distinguish an FT head is the exhaust crossover is in the dead-center of the head, and the FE offset's it to one side. I actually think the FT chamber is smaller than any FE, but I toss 'em so fast when I get 'em I don't exactly remember.

Also, the FT uses very small valves and very small runners. It's a wonder that a big truck can get moving at all with such tiny runners, but that's apparently what trucks need to make lotsa low-end stump-pulling torque.

The FT intake manifold is the only manifold which will bolt up to an pair of FT heads. Fortunately, it's simple to swap out an FT heads and intake combo for an FE head and intake combo.

Hey Dave, I will get in touch with you by email on Monday. Thanks for the invite. Right now, I'm only taking short breaks from getting greasy on a weekend project in the garage, and I've got a buncha questions for you once my current project is completed.

Shoe (in Minneapolis).
