410's were the brain child of Mercury's and carried the name Marauders. They were only factory produced in 66 and 67 and were painted blue with different valve covers (had lighting bolts on them) had 10-1 compression, 4100 carb. and shortie cast iron header type exhaust. Mercury also had 390 marauders that were red or red-orange with the different valve covers also. In 67 or 68 Mercury (Can't remember) introduced the 428 Marauder's which I feel made the 410 obsolute. As John said it had a 428 crank and it's own unique pistons. Which means you just can't throw a 428 crank and flywheel in a 390 and make a 410 cause the piston deck height will be out of the block and hit the heads. Other than that the are identical to a 390. 410's are good reliable engines it maintained correctly and produce good low end torque. |
